Following in the footsteps of the Mercury prize winner and rapper Dave, SFZ is not only bursting onto the UK Conscious Hip Hop scene, but he’s also a classically trained pianist. SFZ or ‘Joe Ordish’ is an emerging UK-based rapper, already gaining considerable attention from BBC Introducing with a number of radio plays already under his belt.
Joe’s new single ‘Elevate’ is completely self-recorded and produced featuring an authentic, stripped-back, lo-fi looped bop and innovative rap vocals. Joes voice gives off an ultra-chill vibe, with honest lyrics to match. The lyrics in the rap shows a man who has analysed the world around him and poured his experience into the track.
The minimal nature of ‘Elevate’ gives credit to simplicity in music, showing how a raw and refined track is just as – or more – effective as many of the over-mixed and produced mainstream hits we see in the music industry today.
Joe has used writing music as a form of therapy, having battled against depression for a large portion of his adult life, as well as having struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. Joe has turned to rapping about his experiences to help himself heal, as well as to share positivity and relatable messages to his listeners:
“We should be role models for ourselves and for those around us, to be kind and to love.”
SFZ has an upcoming debut album to be released next year, but in the meantime listen to his single ‘Elevate’ out now!
