Also Appearing On The Ballot are Pat Benatar, Rage Against The Machine, Beck, A Tribe Called Quest, Devo, Judas Priest & Kate Bush
Whilst we won’t know who will be fully inducted into the fabled Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame until May, the nominees for the class of 2022 are in, and you can put forward your vote NOW! The full list of nominees is Dolly Parton, Eminem, Lionel Ritchie, Beck, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest, Devo, Judas Priest, Kate Bush, Eurythmics, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine, MC5 and Dionne Warwick.
The rules state that in order to be eligible for this years ballot, each nominees first album or single had to of been released in 1996 or earlier and Eminem is the only nominee to appear in his first year of eligibility, with his debut LP Infinite having been released in 1996. But he’s not the only nominee receiving nomination for the first time. In fact, six of the nominees (Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck & Lionel Ritchie) are also on the ballot for the first time.
MC5 will be hoping that sixth time is the charm for them, with the 2022 R&R HOF being their sixth nomination. It’s also the fourth nomination for Rage Against The Machine, the third for Judas Priest, New York Dolls, Devo, Eurythmics and Kate Bush, and the second time that Dionne Warwick, Pat Benatar and Fela Kuti have been nominated.
In previous years, the fabled Hall of Fame ceremony has often been the place where estranged band mates reunite for the evening. Although there aren’t many possibilities of that happening this year, fans of Duran Duran will be getting excited at the prospect of potentially seeing them perform with former guitarists Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo. Metal fans might also get treated to a Judas Priest performance featuring former guitarist K.K. Downing, and drummer from many of their early hits – Les Binks. Or if you’re more into Eurythmics, there is a possibility that you might get to see Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart perform together.
The vote will be decided by a panel of over 1000 artists, journalists, members of the music industry, and historians, but starting today, fans will also be able to cast their vote at www.rockhall.com. These votes will count as a single ‘fan ballot’ that will then get totalled up with all the other votes put forward by the panel – So get voting music fans!
The ceremony will take place in Autumn 2022 at a as yet undisclosed location.
