THE PUNK LEGENDS WILL RE-PACKAGE THEIR CLASSIC ALBUM WITH A HOST OF RARE AND NEVER BEFORE HEARD TRACKS
One of the most influential and important bands of all time, The Clash are gearing up for a special edition re-release of their classic album ‘Combat Rock.’
As first reported by NME, the legendary punk band will reissue their 1982 record, the last to feature the classic line-up of frontman Joe Strummer, guitarist Mike Jones, bassist Paul Simonon and drummer Topper Headon. The album was the band’s biggest commercial success, and saw the band reach levels of superstardom on both sides of the Atlantic. It featured a host of hits, many of which are still hugely popular today, including ‘Rock the Casbah,’ ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go,’ ‘Know Your Rights,’ and so many more.
Most excitingly for hardcore Clash fans like myself, the new re-release will come with 12 additional tracks compiled by the surviving members of the band. Amongst these tracks features the first ever official release of two tracks on which they collaborated with the late The Beat frontman Ranking Roger. Their reinterpretations of ‘Rock the Casbah’ and ‘Red Angel Dragnet’ are available on streaming services right now!
‘Combat Rock/The People’s Hall’ will be available everywhere on May 20th. The album’s second disc is named after the rehearsal and recording space where ‘Combat Rock’ came together. ‘The People’s Hall’ was on London’s Freston Road, and it was the centre point of the Republic of Frestonia, which was a famous attempt made by squatters to secede from the United Kingdom in 1977. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. I wonder if a Frestonian passport would allow you through the speedy EU boarding gates at the airport?
Disc one is the classic album in it’s entirety, but disc two includes a host of rare and unreleased tracks, including an instrumental called ‘He Who Dares or Is Tired’ and a version of ‘Know Your Rights’ recorded using The Rolling Stones’ mobile studio. Other gems include an earlier mix of ‘The Escapades of Futura 2000,’ and album outtakes like ‘Idle in Kangaroo Court,’ and ‘The Fulham Connection.’
